Mississippi State University wanted to honor legendary baseball coach Ron Polk with this statue, installed at the entrance to Dudy Noble Field. A man of short stature, Mr. Polk jokingly asked that his statue be 8 feet tall, so as to stand above the other two statues already located at the field. His wish was granted.
